TV Prescription

Have you ever had the feeling, when you watch a certain program the first time, you felt that it is not-so-good, but months later, when you watch it again, you find yourself enjoying it a lot? I had it many times =p I have also felt the opposite way before. So what is the reason? After much thought, I realised that it may not be the quality of the production after all. It might be us, the audience, who are always changing, every day, every hour...

Djfrostbite's hypothesis: (I don't even want to call these theories, I'm more or less guessing =p)
- Your mind is continuous maturing, especially during your teen years. Try watching a tvb series in say, 2005, and then watch it again in 2006. The feeling might be totally different. You might start to appreciate the scenes you never did, and hate the cheesy scenes you never used to hate.
- If you watch too much TV for a period of time (Let's say 3-4 tvb series back to back), you will get sick of the WATCHING itself, soon, even though what you are watching is somewhat interesting.
- If you have slacked for the entire day, you will NOT enjoy whatever things you are watching in the night, UNLESS, it is something educational, like a historical drama (aka the Conqueror's Story).
- If you are watching something together with someone, you will feel happier watching it
- If you are watching something together with someone, WITH the intention of "converting her into a fan" or whatsoever, you will NOT enjoy it as much, because you will probably feel stressed up instead. Sometimes, he or she might end up converting you into an "anti-fan" instead ><
- If you have worked REASONABLY hard for the day, you will enjoy the things you are watching at night

Okay, these are purely based on what I observed from myself and some people around me. It might be somewhat true, it might sound totally absurd to you. I am not a psychologist after all. I am just a tvb fan who likes to think about watching tvb more than watching tvb itself. Hehe. ANYWAY, the hypothesis above does NOT apply to the TERRIBLE series tvb produced. The first thing which comes into my mind is Split Second, The Herbalist Manual, and serveral episodes of different series here and there. If the script is horrible, it just wouldn't work, no matter what 'state of mind' the audience is in. ><

Djfrostbite's prescription:
- weekdays: 1 hour of tvb/tv per day, nothing more than 2 hours
- weekends: You can go up to 3-4 per day during weekends, but try to make your freetime more than just tv (:

Conclusion: TV watching is a pretty passive activity (unless you are a film reviewer or something), but it is a good relaxation for the body and the mind. Just remember, watch TV to live, don't live to watch TV =p
