Face To Fate- Episode 3

Episode 3 screenies here! Many interesting things happened in this episode. So, we have more pictures (:

O-H-M-Y-G-O-D

Raymond looks so cute with the ladies!
The cutest smile ever

I just thought Nancy looks pretty like this

Aww I just love the way Raymond saves Tavia.

"好一个出水芙蓉,不过狼狈了一点”
Lousy translation: A beauty emerging from the waters indeed (this is quite a famous phrase in chinese, and in this case, the 'water' is the medicine tub >.<). Unfortunately, she looks all clumsy and messed up. Aww I just love the way Raymond talks
Tavia: What are you doing here?
Raymond: What do you think?
Tavia screams, Raymond laughs. Lol this scene is so funny!

The sum-mor kills by letting the victim see what he/she is the most afraid of, causing your heart to beat really fast, burst and die. *yuck* Every victim has their dark story, only Tavia. The thing she is the most afraid of is none other than the MOUSE. Haha that is such an anti-climax. When Tavia said that, every one looked so serious, only Raymond burst out laughing. That is so funny...

Raymond: You didn't die because you are innocent, so innocent that you are totally stupid. That's why sum-mor couldn't do anything to you.
HAHA!
Tavia's expression is so cute!

Anne makes her first 'beauty' appearance. She is John Chiang's wife, Nancy's stepmother, AND...
Frankie knows her. They have a past together?

Face To Fate- Episode 2

More screenies (:

Hehe, so Raymond isn't the mystery killer after all
John's first appearance
"I, Lai Yeuk Yee has 3 'don't cures'. First, people with no money, second, people I don't like, third, when my mood is bad."
What kind of person is Raymond? Why is he so weird? Frankie is trying to find out. Meanwhile, he also needs his help to stop the mystery killer. Anyway, I'm liking Raymond's cool attitude. ~.~ I also like how Frankie outwits him. ~.~ These two are my favourite characters so far. Let's wait for more!

MORE COMING SOON!

Face To Fate- Episode 1

Very happy to be able to watch the first episode of Face To Fate today. Most of the main characters are out by now, first Frankie, Tavia, Nancy and Raymond right at the end of episode 1. Selina, Anne, John and Derek are nowhere to be seen yet. I liked the opening of the series. It tells you a little about fortune telling. I also like Frankie's fortune telling skills. Hehe, I like his character

Anyway, here are some screenies

Frankie's first appearance, in the very first scene of the series. A con fortune teller was bluffing around, not knowing that Frankie is the real expert
Tavia and Nancy's first appearance. They might look like the calm and cool type, but you will soon give up that thought. Hehe...
o.O guess who's this?
Our beloved Raymond! He took one whole episode to appear FULLY. But I like that, cuz it makes his character more mysterious ~.~
Cool fight ~.~ Episode ends here

Stay tuned to djfrostbite! More to come!

Ben+Lingling or Oscar+Kiko?

(Forget The Pain)

Series: Golden Faith (Sub-theme) Survivor’s Law (Main theme)

Sung by: Raymond Lam

Lyrics:

Description:

Most Raymond fans should have noticed this by now, but in case any one hasn’t, the theme song of Survivor’s Law everyone knows about, has actually been used as a sub theme in GOLDEN FAITH, which was an earlier series. o.O

When I first heard “Forget The Pain” in Golden Faith, in one of the Oscar/Kiko scenes, I was already pretty attracted, even though at that time, I wasn’t a Raymond fan YET. It did occur to me that the song might be sung by Raymond, and I thought if it was, then Raymond must have a really professional voice! But soon after, I forgot all about that song, because in Golden Faith, you only get to here about 2 lines of it. That was so stingy of the producers!

It was until I watched Survivor’s Law, the very first time I heard the theme song, I KNEW it was the same song played in Golden Faith. That made me really excited, and loving both series even more. I was glad that I could finally know how the WHOLE song sounds like, and proud to know that Raymond hit the ending high note so well. ~.~ I finally concluded that this was an awesome song. You might hate TVB for being cheap and re-using the song like this, but I can easily forgive TVB because this song was totally UNDERPLAYED in Golden Faith!

Anyways… this song is a significant one for me, because it ‘converted’ me into an ‘official fan’ of Raymond’s singing (though and after finishing the series, I became a TOTAL Raymond fan, hehe). This was a wonderful song, one of the best songs Raymond has ever sung. I just wished the sound quality would be a little better… L

There is also a little piano instrumental of this song in Survivor’s Law, usually featured in the more emotional moments. I like it! I can play it! J

So… which love chemistry was your favourite? Ben+ Ling Ling or Oscar+ Kiko? Looking at the lyrics of the song, mmm, I guess it can fit into either one well. So I’ll leave this for you to decide. Lastly, go RAYMOND! Let’s hope to hear more of such great songs from him in the future!

Extra: Sammul Chan singing Raymond’s song Live. It sounds really muffled, but Sammul’s voice is really not bad at all! In fact, I love it!

Face To Fate Promotion- Part 2

Well, I can't assume that Face to Fate will end up as a warehouse series, but at least for now, it will not be airing in Hong Kong. That is why, I should do Raymond and the rest of the cast/crew a little favour by promoting this series through my blog. (Hehehe, just kidding. djfrostbite can't be that influential)

Title: Face To Fate

Starring: Frankie Lam, Raymond Lam, Tavia Yeung, Selina Lee, Anne Heung, John Chiang

Number of Episodes: 30

Producer: Koon Wing Chung (Placebo Cure, War Of In Laws)

Release Date: 23rd August 2006

Themesong sung by: Raymond Lam

Ending themesong sung by: Frankie Lam and Tavia Yeung

What is this series about?

The 黑道(unorthodox) versus the 白道(orthodox), the battle between many clans, sects etc etc. That makes the Wuxia part of the series. There is also a little 'philosophical' part of the series. Basically Frankie is a fortune teller, who can somewhat predict the future. But he believes in 'knowing fate' and not 'accepting fate'. That explains the english title of the series. So the underlying question: Is it fate? Or is it human choice? Yeap, philosophy elements, in and ancient series. That is really cool, and also why I am so interested in this series (Raymond is still the main reason, hehe)

What else do I know?

-Frankie pairs with Tavia and Anne, but Anne is already a married woman
-Raymond’s character is a doctor with a weird temper (reminds me of Lu Miao Zi in TOB, really cool!). He also has a strange disease, causing him to age really fast, and all his hair to turn white in one night (poor Raymond!).
- Raymond pairs with Selena
- Nancy Wu pairs with Derek Kwok

Why do I want to watch this?

1) Raymond and his cool white hair is the number one reason. His character looks really interesting, and a little eccentric. Can't wait to see him!
2) The whole fortune teller concept is very cool
3) The parts of the cast I like (besides Raymond duh): Tavia Yeung, Nancy Wu, Derek Kwok
4) The whole look of this series is very new, refreshing

What am I afraid of?

I hope the storyline will not disappoint, I have a strong feeling it wouldn't anyway. ~.~ Even though it is already half-warehoused. ((: Ms Selena Lee. I don't think she is a bad actress, but I just hope to see some improvements, and some good chemistry with our beloved Raymond. (:

Awaiting... Face To Fate

The themevideo and themesong are cool (I still love the LWOLAP one a little more). You need a little while to get into it. As a Raymond fan, of course I am obliged to do a little publicity for this new series, so I'll be sharing some screencaptures from the themevideo. The series looks cool, and there seems to be some amount of tragedy between Raymond/Selena, Derek/Nancy, and also Anne. All the characters look cool (especially Raymond). Let's see...

Derek Kwok & Nancy Wu
Raymond holding needles, trying to kill Frankie???
Some hopes of Raymond+ Tavia, they look like they want to kiss
This picture can break hearts
Raymond looks cool with his white hair, cute with his black hair
Frankie and...
Tavia
Gosh, Why is Raymond crying so badly?
Is this the tragic end Derek and Nancy are going to have?!
Raymond's cool white hair and cool look once again. I said it too many times -.-

Once again, Face To Fate will be released in 23rd August. Remember to go down to the rental store to get it!

Hung Yee- Wu Hung Yee

It is pretty cool to have a song named after you. Myolie must feel really honoured. Anyway, I love this song! The first time I heard it, I fell deeply in love with it already. Myolie has a good and likeable singing voice. She hits the high notes so well...

Title: 幸而 (fortunately)
Series: War And Destiny
Sung By: Myolie Wu
Lyrics:

Welcome Gallen Lo back!

I guess everyone knows about the upcoming 'Fung Wan Sui Yuet' by now. The news that Gallen will/should/may be coming back really made my day! It's been 3-4 years since we last saw him in The W Files. I really miss him! Hope his appearance in this series gets confirmed really soon, and save me from all my worries.

Anyway, I have found many similarities between the upcoming 'Fung Wan Sui Yuet' and Golden Faith 2002. Let's see...
1) Both of them are major productions, even though 'FWSY' looks a little MORE major than GF.
2) The titles, 'lau kam sui yuet' and 'fung wan sui yuet' both consists of the word 'sui yuet'.
3) Same producer (Leung Ka Shu)
4) Similar cast (Both consisting of Gallen, Jessica, Raymond and Myolie)

I also found that producer Leung Ka Shu LOVES putting Raymond and Myolie together. Besides A Recipe Of The Heart (Ray and Myolie didn't really exist in TVB at that time), he put the both of them in ALL the series he produces:
1) Golden Faith (Rayolie play brother and sisters this time, not lovers)
2) Survivor's Law
3) Tai Gik
4) Fung Wan Sui Yuet

Also, the fact the Charmaine and Raymond will be paired again makes me really excited. I don't care what kind of characters each of them are playing, I am sure they'll create awesome chemistry. I couldn't get enough from YY and LWOLAP. Welcome them back!

Enough of the rant about the series, it's time for me to share my next song. Since I'm all high about Gallen's possible return, I shall recommend you my favourite Gallen song to you. It is the themesong of ATE, an old song, but I love it. I can't think of a good reason to love this song. I just love Gallen's singing in this one. 柔中待岗(gentle yet strong) I was crazy over this song many years ago. Then, I forgot about it for some time. Digging out to listen again is a great pleasure. Hope you will enjoy!

(Please Allow Me To Stay)
Series: ATE 1
Sung by: Gallen Lo Ka Leung
Lyrics:

Overdue review- Food For Life (my favourite series)

Food For Life- Yummy Yummy

Starring:

Kevin Cheng- Gai Jai

Charmaine She- Mandy

Tavia Yeung- Ah Yan

Raymond Lam- Orh Siew

Ben Yeo- Terry

Michelle Chia- Yuko

Natalie Tong- Ah Bo

Summary :

The story starts out with a TV game-show, where Kevin, Charmaine, Tavia, Raymond and Ben got acquainted. Even though they lost the game, the 5 of them kept in contact and friendship blossomed. Each character faces different struggles with their career, family, and love lives. But each time, the friends are there to give them support, and help them through their difficulties. Finally, the 5 of them decided to start a business together, but they met obstacle after obstacle, and even quarreled for various reasons. After they eventually closed down the shop, each person realized that nothing is more important than the friendship among them, and finally decided to start all over again…

The Story

Woo I totally love the story! It is unique, cute, meaningful and motivating. It’s a great enjoyment watching the 5 characters grow up, learning not to give up, and giving each other support. There is just so much we can learn from this series, and so much we can relate to the characters, because everything is so realistic, so unexaggerated, but cute at the same time. This is the kind of series, you should store it somewhere and dig it out to re-watch once in a while, because every time you re-watch a scene, you might learn something new.

The Characters

Kevin, Charmaine, Tavia, Raymond and Ben each have very different personalities. Each of them portrayed their personalities and struggles very well. I think the casting team did a wonderful job for this part. Everyone was perfect for their role!

Kevin Cheng- Gai Jai!

Kevin is likely to be your favourite character of the series. He is my favourite too (: The reasons? There are too many. Firstly, who doesn’t love kind-hearted, helpful and diligent boys? Kevin is definitely one. Secondly, even though Kevin is hardly educated, he is very mature in his thinking, and always so optimistic. I love his optimism. Third, Kevin’s character is really humorous. He has so many funny expressions, so many witty lines which I wasn’t able to keep track of.. Lastly, he creates sparkling chemistry with almost every character in the series. I love his chemistry with Ben and Raymond the most. These 3 guys are so funny together! In conclusion, I just loved watching Kevin too much, even more than in Hard Fate. I love his comedy skills, I love the way he talks, I love the way he speaks English, and I just love everything about him. I think, Gai Jai is THE perfect boyfriend for me! ~.~ I’m so envious of Charmaine! I don’t know why people failed to recognize this role, but I’m glad Dodo Cheng did

Charmaine She- Mandy Chow

Charmaine plays an intelligent and independent woman in this series. She’s like the nanny of the click, always taking care of those ‘big kids’. I love Charmaine’s character too, because she is very strong and also stylish ~.~. Yes, I love her style. I also love her performance, Charmaine is so natural, and her crying scenes rock! Lastly, I love her cat Eugene. That is amazing, because I usually dislike cats.

Tavia Yeung- Ah Yan

Tavia plays the weak and nervous one here. She is a silly, not-so-smart girl, yet she has to run a transporting company by herself! At the beginning, the company was in a mess. But Kevin and Charmaine taught and helped her a lot, especially Kevin. So slowly, things started improving, and she slowly fell in love with Kevin. I find Tavia very lovely in this series. I also love Tavia’s portrayal of her one-sided love towards Kevin. All the inner-emotions were subtle yet distinct. ‘Haven’t told you the story in my heart’, that’s a line from her song I’ll always remember!

Raymond Lam- Orh Siew/ Daniel

Raymond plays a rich and spoilt boy in this series, but he is not an ordinary rich and spoilt boy. He is actually ambitious, wanting to do something without the help of his family. However, Raymond gives up on his dreams very easily. Whenever something doesn’t go his way, he wants to give up, and finds excuses to run away. I love the way Orh Siew grows so much. And I believe many of us saw our own shadows in Orh Siew. A little bit of diligence, a little bit of laziness, a little bit of arrogance, a little bit of inferiority. Besides that, Raymond is also a big comic factor of the series. I love the way he talks, and the way he phrases his sentences. Kinda funny…

Ben Yeo- Terry

Ben is kinda cute. I hate his mother…

The Parents

Besides looking at the characters themselves, we can see that their parents play and important role in shaping the characters into what they are. Starting with Kevin, his parents are the loveliest, and his family is really well-bonded, even though Kevin is not their real son. Kevin’s father is the impulsive kind, but the way he talks can be really funny. Kevin’s mum is the best, really nice, and really supportive to her son. Both of them are great! Even though they may not be the richest, they give their children the best family, and give the audience the best pleasure of watching their scenes together. Tavia and Charmaine’s father is not so flawless. He is the sickly kind, and the mistakes he made in the past destroyed Tavia and Charmaine’s relationship. Ben’s parents are the ones you will hate the most. The mum is really unreasonable, the dad is really useless. Both Ben’s dad and Ben are so afraid of Ben’s mother that they both became very useless men. Fortunately, Ben met his friends, and gets a little better than his henpecked father. Lastly, we have Raymond’s father. He might not be the best father, because he spoils his son too much, but he really loves Raymond. I just love that actor! I just love the way he talks to Raymond with his hoarse voice. It is really cute. I remember there was one scene in the hospital after Raymond fell from the mountain. The father said, ‘If you don’t want to stay at home then don’t stay at home. If you don’t want your sister to control you I’ll ask her not to. But please don’t risk your life like that and scare your own father!’ The way he said it was so funny!

The Chemistry

Kevin and Charmaine

Their story never started until half of the series was over, but since then, they share so many lovely scenes. They even have a kissing scene in episode 22! I love the bicycle scene, the piggy back scene, the eye drop scene and the scene where Charmaine was drunk and forced Kevin to sing opera for him. Like Kevin said ‘Mandy- high class, high education; Me, low class, no education.’ (That line is really funny) So I was pretty surprised that they ended up together, even though they do make a good couple together. I guess, in the past generation, Tavia’s mother got the man. So in the present generation, to be fair, Charmaine is the one who gets Kevin. ~.~

Kevin and Tavia

I don’t know if you can call them a couple because Tavia’s love was one-sided. But I enjoy their chemistry very much, especially at the beginning, when Kevin keeps helping Tavia and taught her so many things. Even though Kevin only treats Tavia like a sister, he cares a lot about her, and always helps her and supports her. I love the way Kevin always messes around with Tavia’s hair, and he always gives her the ‘silly girl…’ look. Even though they didn’t end up together, I like this relationship very much.

Raymond and Michelle

Even though the way Michelle speaks is unnatural, even though her character is annoying sometimes, I have to admit that this couple is cute. A spoilt rich boy, and a spoilt rich girl, one is the ‘idol’, one is the ‘fan’, can you think of a better combination than that?

Raymond and Charmaine

We can’t call them a couple because it was Raymond who had this short-term infatuation over Charmaine. But you can’t stop laughing at those episodes from around 12-16. I love their chemistry, and even secretly wished they could get together, or at least, have more screen time together! Great chemistry!

Ben Yeo and Natalie Tong

Firstly, I want to say that Natalie Tong is a very talented actress, and I find her very cute. Secondly, Ben and Natalie are such a cute couple, can’t stop laughing at them…

Kevin, Raymond, Charmaine, Tavia, Ben

How can I miss this out? This is the chemistry which supports the whole story. Their relationship is very enjoyable. Every time one person gets into trouble, the friends are there to provide moral support. Until you reach episode 25, when Ben leaves everyone and all the flashbacks came back, you’ll realize how much you’re in love with this chemistry better than anything else!

The Destroyers

The Singaporean Actors

At the beginning, I found many of them to be so annoying (Ben, Michelle and Shawn are exceptions). The beancurd girl, the buck teeth girl, the sissy guy…Fortunately, after episode 7, most of them disappeared.

Ben’s parents

I hate Ben’s mother for being so superficial, and so unreasonable. I hate Ben’s father for being so henpecked, and so useless. Poor Ben, having parents like that… But I do like Ben’s father’s performance. He is funny, and good at acting henpecked.

The Pity Factors (adopting tvbsquare style)

Tavia Yeung vs Charmaine She

This is such a fun series, it is hard to find any pity factors. But sometimes you’ll feel that Tavia and Charmaine’s characters do have a pretty hard life. Compared to Tavia, Charmaine is a little richer, but she can also feel lonely at times, because she does not have the ‘family warmth’. Tavia grew up in complete family, but to keep it going, Tavia has to work really hard, even though she is pretty ‘weak’. Also, she was the one who fell for Kevin first, but Charmaine becomes the one who gets Kevin. So there…

The Best Scenes:

- During the competition, when they were counting the fishes they caught. Raymond’s team won because they caught four extra tiny fishes, each tinier than the other.

- All the Raymond and Charmaine scenes, especially in the office lift. They had SO many scenes in that same lift! Really hilarious!

- When Charmaine was drunk and forced Kevin to sing opera for him. It was simply hilarious!

- When Raymond went to climb the mountain alone. He kept falling, but he refused to give up, because he was too desperate to prove himself after failing so many times. And then, Kevin appears to save him. I love everything Kevin said to Raymond. I also loved Raymond’s performance. That is a very emotional part.

- When Kevin and Tavia got drunk, Tavia touched Kevin’s face, and they played the sub-song she sang. The song says ‘Haven’t told you the story in my heart’. That line had a great impact on me.

- The way Raymond and Michelle got together at the bridge. Very sweet scene!
The Best Quotes:
Kevin:

Ben:
Raymond: If you think you can, you can!
Raymond: I think I am going to die early, because smart people usually die early

The Performance

As I have said, besides some of the Singaporean actors, everyone did a great job here, especially the 5 main characters. In terms of performance, I would say Charmaine is the best. I just love her style in this series, it goes perfectly with her strong character. In terms of character, Kevin’s character is the nicest. I fell in love with him from the beginning, and loved him more and more all the way till the end. Raymond’s character is the one with some flaws, reflecting the flaws of many teenagers in reality. So his story actually provides a very good lesson for us.

The Verdict
This series is EXCELLENT, and you are going to watch it no matter what (by now, you should have). If you’re looking for intense catfights, or complicating love triangles, this might not be the series for you. BUT you should still watch it, and learn to love a different kind of series. It is a sincere and enlightening production. Below is an exclusive note from the producer Wong Sum Wai. Before starting to watch/retry this series, you might want to read it, because it can help you enjoy the series more. (:

Special: A Note From Producer

I'll be there with you, cuz you are my friend...
